”Who hasn’t seen Freising, hasn’t seen Bavaria“, that’s the view of the historian Wilhelm Heinrich Riehl 150 years ago. This bishop’s seat is almost 1300 years old and lies to the north of the state capital Munich.
Freising is a city of science and intellect with a distinctive profile. Next to the great historical tradition of scholars and scribes of Cathedral Hill you can also find the internationally acclaimed research and science centre ”Green Science“. The Weihenstephan Hill houses the University of Applied Sciences Weihenstephan, the Centre of Science of the Technical University of Munich and also many more research and educational establishments are located.
The mediaeval centre of Freising is characterised conspicuously by the town’s landmarks, the towers of the Cathedral, the 92-meter high baroque tower of the Parish Church St. Georg, the tower of the Rococo-Minster Neustift as well as the water towers of the Bavarian State Brewery Weihenstephan, the oldest brewery of the world.
The nearby airport ”Franz-Josef-Strauss“ Munich is one of Europe’s biggest airports which has changed the social life of the city positively and reflects the modern area of Freising.
