Welcome Note by the Conference Chair
The Biennial Conference on Resting State Brain Connectivity has, since its inception in 2008, been the leading conference on resting state functional connectivity. It can be considered the major point of scientific discourse and interaction on resting state methodology. The Third Conference on Resting State Brain Connectivity will be held in Magdeburg, Germany from 5 – 7 September, 2012. The three day format of the meeting consists of lectures by world leaders in resting state connectivity.
Attendance
The first meeting in Magdeburg, 2008 had around 150 attendees. The second meeting, held in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 2010, attendance grew to approximately 350, reflecting the burgeoning interest in the field. For the third international meeting, the number of attendees is expected to exceed 500 — reflecting the still growing interest and activity in the field of resting state fMRI. Attendees will include mainly staff level physicians and scientists from major universities from around the world. Participants will also include trainee level individuals such as post-doctoral fellows, residents, and graduate students.
Meeting Format
The Third Biennial Conference on Resting State Brain Connectivity is intended to bring together key researchers working on the physiological background, application, and analysis of resting state functional connectivity data in a very familial and highly interactive setting. During our three day schedule we will focus on physical, physiological, statistical, and psychological implications of rs-fMRI and use the forum to define future directions of research.
The sessions are scheduled for three full days covering 3 major themes.
Theme 1 will deal with recent advances and methodological issues in resting state data analysis.
Theme 2 will cover the physical and physiological background of low frequency fluctuations including electrophysiological correlates, the impact of physiological noise and insights from pharmacological challenges as well as hardware issues that affect resting state measures.
Theme 3 will focus on clinical and research applications of resting-state fMRI with a specific focus on psychiatric and neurological diseases.
Each day will be organized in four sessions. Sessions will have an expected mean duration of two hours and will include four to five speakers. A special emphasis will be put on active discussions during the sessions. Similar to the last meeting in Milwaukee, we expect a high number of attendees during the lunch presentations, with priority to our top sponsors.
