Dear Colleagues
We were pleased to welcome nearly 1,000 participants to our 22nd Annual Meeting of the Society for Virology from 14 to 17 March 2012 in Essen.
As in recent years, the suspense-filled programme reflected the innovative potential in virology. Our field of expertise has reached a determining point concerning the diagnosis and explanation of diseases’ pathogenesis caused by viruses. In this context, our preparations for the Annual Meeting were accompanied by certain expectations of new results and inspiration regarding the prevention, diagnosis, therapy and control of infectious diseases. Our aim of giving valuable insights into the latest state of knowledge gained by research institutions around the world was achieved by the numerous contributions of internationally renowned speakers.
This year, the Chinese Society of Virology and Microbiology acted as our foreign partner. A large number of German institutes maintain close scientific contacts to corresponding Chinese institutions and our meeting promoted ongoing intense cooperation in the future.
Furthermore, I would particularly like to thank all sponsors and exhibitors for their generous support of our Meeting.
We are looking forward to meeting you again next year at the seaside for the 23rd Annual Meeting of the Society for Virology 2013 in Kiel, Germany!
My coworkers and I will keep fond memories of the event and we hope that anyone spent an unforgettable time in Essen!
