Karlsruhe

Welcome to Karlsruhe

Karlsruhe, once the capital of Baden, lies in the south west of Germany, on the northern flank of Baden-Württemberg. Situated adjacent to the mighty river Rhine, the city is close to the border of France. The climate is very pleasant – its location in the Rhine plain makes Karlsruhe one of the sunniest and warmest cities in Germany.

Karlsruhe is embedded in the “Technology Region Karlsruhe”, where nine cities and several administrative districts have united to one of the most productive regions in Europe. With the advantage of location right in the centre of Europe, “the Technology Region Karlsruhe” stands for cross-border trade as well as economic and technological progress. A high concentration of scientifi c and research institutions have gained Karlsruhe an international recognition. The Technical University of Kalrsruhe has been named „Elite University“ in 2007, an accolade only nine universities in Germany have achieved. On 1st October, 2009, the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) was founded through a merger of Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe and University Karlsruhe.

Additionally, Karlsruhe has plenty of possibilities for different sport activities. Also the widely noticed museums, theatre, opera house and exhibition transforms a journey to Karlsruhe into a memorable cultural experience.
