Travel to Jena

By plane
If you come from America, Asia, Africa and Australia, we recommend flights to Frankfurt International Airport. From there we recommend to take the very comfortable ICE express train leaving directly from the airport every hour. Alternatively you may take a connecting flight to Leipzig which is closer to Jena, but there are only 4-5 connections per day. If you come from Europe you have several flight options.

This airfield is only served by Ryanair from London Stansted. There is an airport shuttle to/from the train station Altenburg and from Altenburg take a regional train to Jena via Gera. The journey from Leipzig-Altenburg to Jena takes about 1.5 hours.

By car
From the Western part, Jena can be reached via the highways A5/A4 Frankfurt am Main/Dresden. Please follow directions Dresden until you reach the exit “Jena-Göschwitz”. Turn onto road B88. There is a roundabout after 8 km, where you need to take the second exit heading towards city centre. Cross the junction at the traffic lights and turn right then, heading to the backside of the Campus (Carl-Zeiß-Straße 3).

Please use the main highway A9 Berlin–Munich coming from the Northern or the Southern part. Follow the highway until reaching “Hermsdorferkreuz”', the main junction at Hermsdorf. Keep attention to the signs for Frankfurt–Erfurt until reaching the exit “Jena Zentrum”. Now follow the main road to the city centre and the signs for “GoetheGalerie”/”Steigenberger Esplanade” (both facilities offer underground parking) to get to the University Campus building (at a distance of a two minutes walk).

By train
Jena has two train stations: “Jena West" (directions Frankfurt/Dresden with a change in Weimar) and "Jena Paradies" (ICE train station, directions Munich, Berlin and Leipzig). Both stations are within walking distance from the hotels downtown and the conference venue.

Please note that ICE trains (high speed trains) tend to be fully booked, especially on Friday and Sunday afternoons. Seat reservation is highly recommended. For further information please refer to the Travel Service page of the Deutsche Bahn.
