Welcome to Weimar
Weimar in Thuringia is one of the great cultural sites of Europe, having been home to such famous writers as Goethe or Schiller. It has been a site of pilgrimage for German intellectuals since Goethe first moved to Weimar in the late 18th century. Whether it is the Goethe or the Schiller House, the Wittumspalais, the Ducal Vault, the Bauhaus Museum, the Anna Amalia Library or the Nietzsche Archive: Visitors can literally trip over sights by every step. Through its strong cultural history, Weimar was designated the City of European Culture in 1999. Today Weimar is a city with about 63.000 inhabitants, offering something for any visitor: culture, theatres, concerts, cabaret and exhibitions. In fact, hardly a day goes by without some special event being staged. All these elements are a real opportunity for the city which hosts 3,5 million tourists each year. Located in the heart of Germany, Weimar is an ideal meeting place for national and international congresses and conventions.
